Broken Record? I hope not!

If you've opened a magazine lately you've most likely seen a jumpsuit or, as my friend "A" prefers, romper. Some might think of them as constraining or rather prison-esque. But hey! What's so wrong with prison chic? Of course I'm only kidding. I'm in no way condoning rocking the behind the bars look. But no one is asking you to suit up in blackand-white stripes or an orange get-up. Today's jumpsuits are fierce. Some are swanky; others safari, but nonetheless, they're everywhere and I think it's about time to get one! With heels on a date or a night out with the girls, the jumpsuit, according to Celeste, is a welcome break from too short skirts (gag!) or shirts with jeans. The one I've pulled for this post is a black shirred off-the-shoulder from asos.com. It's $39.08 and the shoes I've picked are $26.57 so for only $65.65 and a groovy belt, you have the perfectly "unique" (kind of hate that word) date outfit that's sure to turn heads. Not to mention have people rushing to their Blackberries googling "black jumpsuit" to follow... suit. (Sorry for the pun). Until yours comes in the mail or is covering your tail: Happy Struttin'!

What does vintage mean?

I openly admit that college has made me an online shopaholic. Luckily for me and my bank account most of that is window shopping and whenever I like to open a new window with a particular item in mind, I head straight to my fave sites including eBay. I stumbled upon another vintage store on Wednesday that I am now absolutely enamored with. I'm new to vintage and I used to typically think of vintage as tacky old garments that are being glorified as worthy of being worn again by whoever is bold enough to do so. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Although I love Kingston Avenue Vintage some of the stuff for auction is just a hot and holy mess. But that's okay. On the other hand, Tin Roof Vintage has far less mess. On the downside the prices are quite a bit higher. The average garment at KAV probably sells for around $12 bucks whereas the prices at TRV are closer to $40. But as always, I think it's necessary to look at the quality of the garment, the chic factor and PPW (price per wear) not to mention how much your beautiful, beating heart thinks it's worth. I'm bidding on the blue and white dress pictured. Don't be afraid to spend a little more on a one-of-a-kind piece that couldn't dare be duplicated at a party or that people will fawn over and ask where you got it; to which you can coolly reply, "Oh, it's viiinnnntage."

Can't Touch This!

Dun nun nun nuh! Nuh nuh! Nuh Nuh! Can't touch this! Hammer pants or Harem pants as they're known in the fashion world slowing creeping back onto the scene. I took a leap and bought some back in January and though I have yet to wear them, mine are army green and not like the tacky "drapey" mess that you often see on the racks. I believe they are the style of tomorrow and push my fashion boundaries... but not over the edge! I wish I knew exactly what to wear with
these pants, or where to wear them. Lucky Magazine features them often and I should attempt to soak up that knowledge but I can't quite say that I think I've mastered the look and refuse to step out of Mark Twain dormitory without an outfit that evokes the confidence needed to make my hips switch just a bit. So, lovely reader, I'm putting it in your hands. Tell me how you think harem pants should be worn or send me a link is you've seen them rocked well somewhere. The ones featured here are from Forever 21 but I wanna see them styled! I'm not the guru and I don't try to pass myself off to be. I'm just a shopaholic magazine editor wannabe with ten fingers to type my thoughts. So I'm handing it over to you. In case you've forgotten: email bargainbeautybaby@gmail.com or write on the Bargain Beauty Baby facebook wall! Harem Time!

Make a statement....

I've recently been wanting to cut my hair and thus, I've been fawning over pictures of Taraji P. Henson at the Oscar's. The cut is dynamic! But as you've come to know this isn't a hair blog. Ms. Henson rocked that hair like nobody's business but she also flaunted some major rocks around her neck. The statement necklace is bold, beautiful, and chic. I prefer a statement necklace with a solid colored outfit of simple print because the necklace shouts from the collar. There's lots of them on eBay and if you pick up this month's People Style Watch they burst off the colorful pages. I'm keeping my eye out for the perfect one while I'm here in Missouri, but when I get home to Texas it's straight to my grandmother's vintage and costume jewelry collection I go! Amethyst! Ruby! Jade! She has 'em all and I'll be just like a kid in a candy shop just as soon as you can say, "Welcome to the Lone Star State!"

Supply and Demand

Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved the couture world. I'd spend my allowance [beginning at the tender of seven] on gianormous Vogue magazines and pour over the glossy pages longingly. Over the years I've paid more attention to the astronomical prices but loving the creations nonetheless. I understand the craftsmanship, and fabulousity deluxe of the couture gowns and wonders of design. But what about a plain pair of Michael Kors pants? Or a St.John's nautical sweater? These fashion houses command hundreds of dollars per garment for what? I think that the garments should only be deserving of the big bucks if they are Italian, French or American made ("Made in China" isn't acceptable for designer dinero in my book). They should also be rich in quality, craft, creativity or down right spectacular in nature. But, we still love these brands despite their sometimes money-hungry nature. So! Though I can't explain why the prices are so jacked up, I CAN show you some top-secret ways of getting the price down. I've recently been informed of some websites that are invitation only: some featuring ridiculous sample sales and others that bring to your inbox the brands of your choice and alerts of when they go on sale at a sundry of sites. Interested? You have two choices: send me an email at bargainbeautybaby@gmail.com or become a fan of Bargain Beauty Baby on Facebook and write it on the wall. Happy Shopping!
