I'm a Barbie Girl

Most of you reading this are pretty girly. Just admit it. And accordingly, I bet you played with dolls. Though I never quite understood the purpose of it; I did it too. Dressing them up in whatever I could find, cutting their hair (I give a mean Barbie Buzz cut) and vocalizing the Barbie fantasy life ("Oh, Ken! How I love you so!). This is all fine and acceptable at age 6, but 16 or 21? Not so much. Until now. LOOKLET(.com) is a new website that has painstakingly made available the opportunity to dress up models online. But this isn't a game. Looklet allows you to dress your model in Marc Jacobs, Cheap Monday, Diane von Furstenburg or Ralph Lauren. You can dress them from underwear to outwear; from head to toe or choose to remix an existing look. I've created the one below and you can search for others by me by searcing B3BLOG. It's summertime and you HAVE to be sick of the validated voyeurism of Facebook (with the exception of being a B3 fan). And of course, you following Bargain Beauty Baby on Twitter, right? (twitter.com/b3blog) So, when it's all said and done mosey on over to Looklet and create a look. It's a 2009 way of holding on to your inner Peter Pan. Oh and you mean little Tinkerbell's? You can play too.

She's baaaaacccckkkkkkkkkk!

What did it take to get me back to the keyboard? SEX. Sex and the City, the movie that is. How could I consider myself a connoisseur of couture without having seen this iconic fashion film? I'm not quite sure. I also don't know how I survived almost two decades on this earth without this movie in my life, because I will never be the same. Thank you Carrie Bradshaw for bringing me back. Thank you loyal readers, for welcoming me back. Thank you Ann Taylor for creating the second reason for my radiant return: the leopard printed sheath I've been feigning for since it leaped off of the pages of Marie Claire and Harper's Bazaar. Or was it Elle? They are all fabulous and this dress is certainly no exception. The color. The shape. The print. The price. Oh actually no, I got a little ahead of myself. Not the price. At $160 plus tax it's certainly no "bargain" but an investment piece no less. Not that yours truly has any funds for "investing" as I've been "building my wardrobe" (read: buying clothes almost everyday) and am actually a bit scared to check my back account. None the less, it is my new found friend Express that has an alternative to my coveted Ann Taylor sheath. A 3/4 wrap dress in the black and grey leopard that will just have to suffice. Until we (my finances and my decision making skills) meet again; Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu (to you and Ann Taylor too!)

Broken Record? I hope not!

If you've opened a magazine lately you've most likely seen a jumpsuit or, as my friend "A" prefers, romper. Some might think of them as constraining or rather prison-esque. But hey! What's so wrong with prison chic? Of course I'm only kidding. I'm in no way condoning rocking the behind the bars look. But no one is asking you to suit up in blackand-white stripes or an orange get-up. Today's jumpsuits are fierce. Some are swanky; others safari, but nonetheless, they're everywhere and I think it's about time to get one! With heels on a date or a night out with the girls, the jumpsuit, according to Celeste, is a welcome break from too short skirts (gag!) or shirts with jeans. The one I've pulled for this post is a black shirred off-the-shoulder from asos.com. It's $39.08 and the shoes I've picked are $26.57 so for only $65.65 and a groovy belt, you have the perfectly "unique" (kind of hate that word) date outfit that's sure to turn heads. Not to mention have people rushing to their Blackberries googling "black jumpsuit" to follow... suit. (Sorry for the pun). Until yours comes in the mail or is covering your tail: Happy Struttin'!

What does vintage mean?

I openly admit that college has made me an online shopaholic. Luckily for me and my bank account most of that is window shopping and whenever I like to open a new window with a particular item in mind, I head straight to my fave sites including eBay. I stumbled upon another vintage store on Wednesday that I am now absolutely enamored with. I'm new to vintage and I used to typically think of vintage as tacky old garments that are being glorified as worthy of being worn again by whoever is bold enough to do so. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Although I love Kingston Avenue Vintage some of the stuff for auction is just a hot and holy mess. But that's okay. On the other hand, Tin Roof Vintage has far less mess. On the downside the prices are quite a bit higher. The average garment at KAV probably sells for around $12 bucks whereas the prices at TRV are closer to $40. But as always, I think it's necessary to look at the quality of the garment, the chic factor and PPW (price per wear) not to mention how much your beautiful, beating heart thinks it's worth. I'm bidding on the blue and white dress pictured. Don't be afraid to spend a little more on a one-of-a-kind piece that couldn't dare be duplicated at a party or that people will fawn over and ask where you got it; to which you can coolly reply, "Oh, it's viiinnnntage."

Can't Touch This!

Dun nun nun nuh! Nuh nuh! Nuh Nuh! Can't touch this! Hammer pants or Harem pants as they're known in the fashion world slowing creeping back onto the scene. I took a leap and bought some back in January and though I have yet to wear them, mine are army green and not like the tacky "drapey" mess that you often see on the racks. I believe they are the style of tomorrow and push my fashion boundaries... but not over the edge! I wish I knew exactly what to wear with
these pants, or where to wear them. Lucky Magazine features them often and I should attempt to soak up that knowledge but I can't quite say that I think I've mastered the look and refuse to step out of Mark Twain dormitory without an outfit that evokes the confidence needed to make my hips switch just a bit. So, lovely reader, I'm putting it in your hands. Tell me how you think harem pants should be worn or send me a link is you've seen them rocked well somewhere. The ones featured here are from Forever 21 but I wanna see them styled! I'm not the guru and I don't try to pass myself off to be. I'm just a shopaholic magazine editor wannabe with ten fingers to type my thoughts. So I'm handing it over to you. In case you've forgotten: email bargainbeautybaby@gmail.com or write on the Bargain Beauty Baby facebook wall! Harem Time!
